Spurgeon in making reference to a fair grounds said, "You have seen those mirrors . . . you walk up to them and you see your head ten times as large as your body, or you walk away and put yourself in another position, and then your feet are monstrous and the rest of your body is small; this is an ingenious toy, but I am sorry to say that many go to work with God's truth upon the model of this toy; they magnify one capital truth till it becomes monstrous; they minify and speak little of another truth till it becomes altogether forgotten."

Lol, obviously Spurgeon thought so...you better google it..
Sadly, I've experienced this with others and even myself. When we rely on our own understanding I think we tend to go to extremes. I've caught myself interpreting Scripture based on what I'm experiencing at the time, or want to hear, etc.
I keep praying that God will help me to have and keep the attitude that Samuel had as a boy. Attentive to hear what He is saying with a readiness to obey. Isaiah 66:2 and 2 Timothy 2:15 are also two verses that I try to stay mindful of as I hear and read His Word.
